What’s tougher about Hard?

Hard puzzles keep the same 4 rules, but with far fewer starter numbers. You’ll need to use the hyper boxes almost from the first move. Cells outside the tinted regions will mostly be solved last.

Don’t rush! Most Hard Hyper Sudoku puzzles take 15–30 minutes when you’re used to them, and longer when you’re still learning.

If you haven’t played the easier levels yet, do a few rounds at Medium Hyper Sudoku first to make sure the basic strategies (hyper scan, inside-the-box first, 45 check) feel automatic. Hard relies on all of them at the same time.

Two real solver tricks

  1. Naked pairs in a hyper box

If two cells in the same hyper box can only be 3 or 5, no other cell in that hyper box can be 3 or 5. Erase them from your notes. This is the single highest-impact trick on Hard.

  2. Hidden singles in a hyper box

If a digit can only fit in one cell of a hyper box, it must go there — no matter what its row, column or regular box says. Hard Hyper Sudoku has a lot of these.

Hard puzzle game plan

  1. Step 1

Tap Auto Notes to fill all the candidate numbers.

  2. Step 2

Scan all four hyper boxes. Look for hidden singles (a digit that fits in just one cell of a hyper box).

  3. Step 3

Solve cells inside the hyper boxes whenever you can — they unlock both their hyper box AND their regular row/column/box at once.

  4. Step 4

Hunt for naked pairs on rows, columns, regular boxes AND all four hyper boxes.

  5. Step 5

When stuck, tap Hint — then keep going!

Common Hard mistakes

  • ⏩ Going too fast. Hard punishes a quick guess — wrong numbers ripple through a row, column, regular box AND a hyper box.
  • 📝 Forgetting to update notes after a placement. Always erase the new digit from peers’ notes.
  • 🔢 Only using row/column/box logic. The four hyper boxes give extra clues — use them.
  • ✅ Skipping the Check button. If something feels stuck, the most likely reason is a wrong digit from earlier.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hard too tough for kids?

Hard is really meant for kids who’ve already played a lot of regular sudoku and a few Easy/Medium Hyper Sudoku puzzles. If it feels too tough, jump back to Medium — there’s no rush.

Can I solve a Hard Hyper Sudoku without guessing?

Yes — every puzzle on this site has exactly one solution and is designed to be solved with logic. If you’re stuck, the Hint button always reveals a correct cell.

How does Hard Hyper Sudoku compare to Hard classic 9×9?

They’re different challenges. Hard 9×9 is all about pattern-spotting; Hard Hyper Sudoku adds four new mini-boxes that create new pattern types. Most kids who can do one can pick up the other within a few sessions.
