What makes Expert so tough?

Expert Circle Sudoku gives you about eleven starter numbers — the smallest clue count we use on this game. Every placement has to come from combining rings, sectors and arc boxes at once.

But every Expert puzzle on this site has exactly one answer, and you can solve it without guessing. Use logic, take breaks, trust your notes!

If Expert feels overwhelming, that’s normal — even adults find it tough. Spend a few weeks at Hard Circle Sudoku first; the techniques are exactly the same, just with one or two more givens.

Techniques worth memorising

  • 🔢 Hidden singles in every ring, every sector, every arc box
  • 🔢 Naked pairs and naked triples across all three group types
  • 🔢 Pointing pairs: if a digit in an arc box can only go on one ring or one sector, it’s locked out of the rest of that ring/sector
  • 🔢 Box/line reduction — same as classic sudoku, but applied to arc boxes and rings/sectors

Expert solving routine

  1. Auto Notes first

Tap it the moment the puzzle loads. You’ll see every candidate at a glance.

  2. Start at the centre

The innermost ring has only six cells. It often solves first and unlocks the rest of the board.

  3. Scan by arc box

Each arc box has only six cells in a compact shape. Spot any hidden singles and place them.

  4. Hunt naked pairs

Look for two cells with the same two candidates on any ring, sector or arc box — those digits are locked in those cells.

  5. Place, repeat, win

Each placement narrows things down for every other cell. Keep going until the board is full!

Frequently asked questions

How long does an Expert Circle Sudoku take?

Most kids who can solve Expert finish in 15 to 30 minutes. Some take longer — that’s normal! There’s no time limit.

Can I really solve Expert without guessing?

Yes! Every puzzle on this site has exactly one solution and was checked by computer to be solvable with logic alone. If your guess turns out wrong, just tap Undo.

What if I’m really stuck?

Tap the Hint button — it fills one correct cell so you can keep going. Hints count in your stats, but they’re there to help.

Is there anything harder than Expert Circle Sudoku?

On this site, Expert is the toughest Circle puzzle. Some grown-up sites have an 8×8 version with digits 1–8 — but that’s more for adults than kids.
